We are at the halfway point of the third quarter. Parents, please be certain to check eConnect to see your child’s scores at this crucial juncture in the quarter. Students with scores under 70 in any core curriculum course will receive an email from Ms. Skylar’s office.

Sunday, February 26

Welcome to Week 23 of the Academic Year! We are starting our fourth week of the semester, a full week with no changes expected in the schedule. Last week’s celebration of Reading Week was a tremendous success. It was a joy to see middle and high school students reading books and writing stories with the children in the elementary divisions. Once again your sons and daughters did the school proud!

We have a number of things coming up in the near future. Very soon, within the next 10 days, the counseling office will send out a round of emails to academically at-risk students. All parents of students with scores below 70 in a core subject can expect an email no later than Thursday, March 9. On a happier note, we are hard at work trying to organize overnight trips for all high school grades between March 8-11. Please be on the lookout for the circular describing the class trip. The success of the trips depends on student participation. Please consider sending your child on the trip!

In closing, we are about halfway through the third quarter. Time is flying!

Sunday, February 19

Thank you to everyone who came to the parent conferences! We had a good day reviewing your child’s academic performance and progress with you.

This week is Reading Week at GPIS. On Sunday, students will attend an assembly with English speaking author Nihad, who has prepared a presentation on how to become a writer in Egypt. During first period on Monday and Tuesday, high school students will visit the elementary school students and each will read a book to a younger partner from the elementary school. The high school will also have mystery-reader guests in some of their classes over the course of the week. It promises to be a great week!

Sunday, February 12

Report cards will be coming home on Sunday, February 12. We invite all parents to attend the Parent Conferences on Thursday, February 16. Teachers will be available from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm. Each conference is 15 minutes. I look forward to seeing you on Thursday!

Tuesday, February 14 is Valentine’s Day and will be an out of uniform day. Students should come to school in Valentine colors (they should have some red and white on). Ripped jeans are not allowed.

Sunday, November 6

This past Wednesday (November 2) the GPIS leadership team received a proposal from the Student Council requesting a change to the school’s cell phone policy. In response to the proposal the leadership team voted to make an important change to said policy. Thank you to the Student Council for advocating for change in a positive and productive manner.

Please see the new cell phone policy below:

Amended Cell Phone Policy — Effective Immediately
The use of mobile phones, including all accessories to phones, is strictly forbidden on the GPIS campus from the moment the student enters the school gates until the student exits the school building following the bell signaling dismissal at the end of the day. Students may not use their cell phones in the courtyard or anywhere on campus prior to the morning lines. Cell phones must be turned off during the school day. After the end-of-day dismissal bell has rung, students must keep their cell phones put away as they clear the hallways and make their way out of the building. At the end of the day, cell phone use is permitted only after the student has exited the school building. If students bring their cell phones to school, it will be the student’s responsibility to care for his or her cell phone properly. The school will not be responsible for lost cell phones.

Students who violate the school cell phone policy will have their phones confiscated for one week. If repeated, the phone will be confiscated for a month, and in the event of a third offense the phone will be confiscated until the end of the semester. In case of emergency, and with the approval of the stage Vice-Principal, a student can use an office cell phone to make a call. The call must be made from the office of the stage Vice-Principal. In the high school, there may be reason to use phones for class-related activities. Cell phone use for classroom activities is up to the discretion of the teachers and must be with their permission only.
